Here is a second layout with The Scrapping Spot November kit from Dream Street Tea for Two. Rather than go with a fall theme this time, I liked the brown paper you can see in the background because it reminded me of old wallpaper. I had been wanting to do a layout with this vintage family photo so this seemed perfect for that. The photo is starting at the front my Papaw, my Mamaw's brother, sister, father and step mother. They are sitting down for dinner in the dinning room of Mamaw and Papaw's house. That house is now my house, so I always wanted to put that picture together with a picture of the room now. Now granted, we haven't remodeled that room yet, so it still has ugly old paneling and several other things I'd like changed. Regardless, it is still so cool that as I sit here and type this to you, I am sitting in the exact spot where the photo was taken. Love the family history of that. I also think its cool that in the now picture, you can see an antique ironing board, and phone stand. Well those belonged to Mamaw and Papaw and were probably in the house at the time of the first photo! Again, cool huh?

Been at home today. Should have been at work. Not feeling so fabulous so decided I should stay in. Feeling kind of blah mood wise as well. My friend Lisa described that "blah" feeling as "I know I'm not in a really good mood and I just don't care..." Perfect description. I think all the hours my husband has had to work in the past week and 1/2 is beginning to get to us both. He has a deadline and has been trying to accomplish about a month's worth of work in this past week and 1/2 I mentioned. He is working late again tonight and probably the rest of the week. We are grateful for the overtime...not so much for the schedule. At least there is an end in sight.

Off to figure out dinner for 1! Hope your week is going well.

Trunk or Treat

How cool are these pumpkins? We had our church Trunk or Treat this evening. My friend's dad is an artist and he did a pumpkin carving demonstration for the kids. The top picture is one he created while telling the kids a story about Jesus. The bottom picture is some others he had on his table for an example. Aren't they beautiful? One of the little guys loved the pumpkins so much he came back to look at them and wanted to take one home. It was very cool. The pictures are a smidgen blurry but I wanted to take them without the flash to get the glow effect. With the flash lit them up way too much.

It was a great evening and we had a wonderful turn out. Several people from church had their cars decorated for different Bible stories and told the kids the story as they came to each car. One friend was the story of David and Goliath and they had an 8 ft cutout of Shaquille O'Neal for Goliath with tin foil on it for armor and then their little boy was David. Another friend did Daniel in the Lion's den and had her 2 black labs with these fleece collars on to be the lions and her little nephew was Daniel. The dogs were so calm and sedate it was funny when she talked about the "ferocious lions" and the dogs are like napping and looking bored. There was lots of yummy food with coney's and chips, mac and cheese, veggies and goodies. My friend's Mom made the best cut out pumpkin cookies with icing. We had a great time.

New Layout

Here is my first DT layout using the November kit. The papers are from Dream Street from the Tea for Two collection. The kit also has these cool Imaginesce rubons that come with the rhinestones. Love those! I also got out my chalk pencils for this one and I haven't done that in the longest time! The patterned paper had this tone on tone flower design in the upper right corner so I used the chalk pencils to bring it out a bit more. Was going for a muted kind of tapestry kind of look. Hopefully that is what I got. I am happy with it anyway. Check out this kit in the store at The Scrapping Spot! You will love it. This picture of my Mom and Dad is one of my absolute favorites. As the journaling describes we were trying to take a family photo after Thanksgiving last year and while 12 of us were milling around trying to get posed and situated my husband started snapping these photos of my parents. I love, love the enlarged one and how natural and perfect it is. He takes good pics don't you think?

Date Night

Richard Paul Evans has a new book out called The Gift. My Mom and I were looking for it a few weeks ago but it wasn't released yet. I found it tonight at Target! I first read Richard Paul Evans after seeing The Christmas Box on TV several years ago. LOVED that movie and the book. That book then lead me to read most/all of his others. Just the flap on this book was amazing. He tells a story about how his brother was electrocuted when they were kids. He survived it but had bad injuries on his hands. He says their grandfather had the spiritual gift of healing and prayed over him for no scars from the wounds. When they unbandaged him later there was no signs of his injuries. The doctors said he couldn't be the same boy! Just that story gave me chills. He said he told that one to say how the book is about healing. I am really looking forward to reading it. I love reading Christmasy stories during the holiday season. Really helps to keep me focused on the season.

Darrel and I had a wonderful dinner at Red Lobster for Date night. This is the time of year they run their "Endless Shrimp" special. It's an all you can eat shrimp and you get to choose from 5 different kinds. They had shrimp alfredo, buffalo shrimp, hand breaded shrimp, popcorn shrimp and shrimp scampi. Between the two of us we tried some of all of those. The alfredo, the scampi and the hand breaded were my fav! SOOO good. We also had a $4 off coupon so even better. We only had to wait about 1/2 hour for a table and it was a nice enough night outside that we didn't have to stand in the huge crowd inside. We also got a great table and a good waitress. It was perfect.

I hav to spend some time scrapping tomorrow. "Have" to. Don't you feel bad for me? Kidding. I would love to get to spend the day scrapping. I need to get at least a couple DT layouts done. I want to work on and finish my blocks and I have a list, yes, I said a list, of about a dozen other projects I'd like to get done. I haven't done my picture a day album from my picture a day in July, I want to make a mini album about my "pink birthday week", I want to finish a travel journal I started on vacation plus make a separate vacation album, etc., etc. You get the idea.

So do you participate in Halloween? We aren't big Halloween people, but this year our church is doing a Trunk or Treat on Sunday night. It's an alternative to Halloween for the community and there is also a Harvest Party with games, a light dinner, hayrides, etc. I hope to get lots of great pictures! Sounds like fun huh?

Wish I could tell you all the great stuff that is coming up at The Scrapping Spot. I will tell you that you should hang aroung and check out the next several months. I believe November's new kits are posted. They are very cool with new papers from Dream Street and Sassafrass Lass. Then wait till you see the fabulous stuff coming in the December and Jan kits. More Fall Decorating

I am so excited to have finally finished the Fall banner I was working on. I downloaded the instructions and patterns for this from Heart In Hand Scraps here. I did the embellishing a bit different, but mostly followed Linda's example. LOVE this and will probably not want to take it down for Christmas! Ha. Ha. Here are a few more shots to show the detail better.

It felt good to finally get something done. I have to say I have been a bit over stressed lately. There has just been no time for anything but the next thing that has to be done. It's making me nuts. I seriously need a couple of normal/routine days in a row to regain my sanity I think. I mean I was in tears today just because Darrel needed to work a bit late. It wasn't his fault. He has some major deadlines at work this week. I really didn't have a problem with him working, it was just that it made another goofed up evening with a late dinner and then no time to accomplish much of anything else. Not to mention I was already stressing over another personal situation, plus a broken clothes dryer and laundry piling up, and work to get done this week, and etc., etc. You know how it can snowball and how at that point the littlest thing can seem HUGE. I must say though, when you have one of those days, its not a bad idea to find you have a hostess cupcake and a diet pepsi in your bag for the ride home from work! Ha. Ha.

God is so cool though. In the middle of the day I mentioned above, I got a couple of very nice e-mails commenting on a song I sang on Sunday that made me smile. It really gave me a boost right when I was needing it. Especially since I was concerned I hadn't done my best job. But you know what I rehearsed as much as I could. I prayed about it a lot. And from all that I was just trying to let it go and hoped it was what God wanted it to be. I have been blessed by some of the comments because it seems that the words to the song touched some other hearts like they do mine. (I sang the Casting Crowns song East to West that I have discussed here before.) Singing can be very humbling so Thank you to those sweet people who took a few minutes today to send me a few kind words.

Gotta run and work on DT layouts. Need to get those done so I can finish my blocks! Hope to do that soon too!

My Busy Week......

So wow, what a BUSY week it has been. I can't believe I haven't posted since last Monday! So where to start? Well as you can see, the weather is finally cooling down and therefore the trees are finally beginning to turn. This is one beside our garage. LOVE the orange colors. Seems like the trees are a couple of weeks behind at this point. I am hoping they will still turn and we will have lots of gorgeous color! The temps. have finally gotten cooler too and it is beginning to feel like fall. LOVE that too. Love the fall air.

So Monday, Tues. and Wed. I worked and in the evenings we had lots of other house things to do. I got to a mini meltdown point by about Wednesday evening. Do you ever get like that where there is just too much going on and you are tired and overwhelmed and are just done! I was there Wednesday....

Thursday we hit the Covered Bridge Festival in Parke County Indiana. God really blessed us with some decent weather. We did not get rained on once and at one point the forecast was like 80% chance of thunderstorms. We found some cool stuff too. Not sure if it is a trend where you live, or if its just here in the country.... but everyone seems to be having these big stars on their house. I got sucked in too and decided I'd like to have one, and then somehow ended up with two! The large one will go on our garage above the doors, just below the peak. The smaller one I plan on putting on the porch over our glider. Can't wait for Darrel to get them hung up.

Then in a couple of antique booths I found these.

The old canning jar came full of vintage buttons. The other old jar with the metal lid, I am going to use for buttons or ribbon or something. Then I found the old utensil tray and plan to use that maybe for pens or ink pads or something. Who knows. I also got yes, another pair of Crocs! I have been wanting a pair of the off road style shown here. There was a booth that had them and I snatched them up! They are wonderful. I know own 7 pairs of Crocs and these are my favorite and most comfortable!

Friday there was work and then my husband's parents came in for a visit and to stay with us for the weekend. Yesterday they wanted to ride over to French Lick Indiana to see a newly renovated hotel called West Baden Springs. It has been closed for years but is now all restored and is very beautiful and elegant. It was built in the early 1900's and it's still quite something to see the beautiful building and grounds. This is the atrium off the lobby.

So today was church and lunch. Now I think Darrel and his parents are going to play a game. I am hoping to sneak in some scrap time. Still not done with those projects I posted about and now I need to get DT stuff done as well. I got some chipboard letters yesterday to help finish my banner. I also got my DT kits (they are awesome! Go check them out at The Scrapping Spot web site. The November kits are from Sassafrass Lass Indian Summer and Dream Street Tea for Two! Both are great for fall photos!) I also got some of the new MM Noteworthy line very cool!

Finally got to check out the LSS in neaby Jasper called The Doodlebug. Very cool. Need to go back when I have more time. It was so fun when I checked out the girl asked my name for the computer. I told her thinking they would not have me listed because I had never been to their new location. She pulled me up though and then said, "this says you've been published 3 times..." I smiled and said well, 4, but how did you know that?? I mean seriously how did they know that? I told her I just recently had a card in Scrapbooks, Etc. and she pulled out the new issue so I could show her. Very fun. She had no idea how they knew? I need to ask if Lisa told them?

Monday and a Busy Week Ahead

So aren't these cute? This is some of the tiny red Indian corn Darrel brought home to me on Saturday. I put a couple of them outside and the rest are on my coffee table. See last year we had some full size Indian corn outside for decoration and some creature thought it was a buffet. Everyday a little more would be gone and by the time we took decorations down, about 6 ears of Indian corn had been completely cleaned off!

OK, someone please tell me when did I get old? When did that happen? Does it like just sneak up on you? Seriously! Yesterday we left for church around 9 AM and did not return home until after 9 PM. We were on the go all day long and I'll tell you what....that wears me out anymore! It lingers till the next day where I like just need a nap. This is NOT a good week to start off that way either. Everyday is soooo busy! I work Mon, Tues, Wed. and in the evenings I have to do my house cleaning and laundry and get our guest room ready for company on Friday. There is also groceries to get and I am trying to learn a song because I sing at church on Sunday. Thursday we are heading to the Covered Bridge Festival and that will easily be a 12 hr day. Friday I work and our company will arrive for the weekend. Saturday we have plans for the day. Sunday we have church (with our company) and we are on Praise Team, I have a solo, and choir is singing. Sunday night is a Youth Fund Raiser Fish Fry...... Monday is back to work and a church council meeting in the evening..... by Tuesday I think I'll be ready for vacation! Not to mention that somewhere in there my next design team kit will arrive and I will have layouts to get done.......... Now in the midst of all that, all I would like to do is get back in here

to my scraproom. I have been trying to finish this fall banner and get it hung up! I'd like to do that before Christmas maybe? I also want to make these blocks that you see in the top right. The guest DT Lacey at The Scrapping Spot made a set and I wanted to try them too. Darrel had the post wood in his scraps and cut them and sanded them for me. This is as far as I have gotten:

Aren't they coming out so cool though? I just want some time to play! (imagine the little frowning pouty smilie face here...) Not to mention my table is sitting there all messy and I hate that. Yes, I have OCD issues... something wrong with that? I even clean up in between layouts.

Ok, was working on my new song. The accompaniment comes with a lyrics sheet. Umm the lyrics are WRONG. Wouldn't you think on the lyric sheet they give you so you can sing the song that the lyrics should be right? Shouldn't I be able to count on that? They are wrong enough that if you sing them their way, it actually changes the meaning of the song! Duh. What is up with that?

It is October 15th right? Or is it the 16th by now? ha. We were out cleaning in the guest room (we have a guest room and bath behind our garage) and I was like seriously sweating. It is too stinking hot for October 15th and it was humid too! Right now it is actually raining (yay! we need rain!) and that at least cut the moisture in the air. I so want cool crisp fall temps!

Anyone out there blessed with a cleaning lady or cleaning/maid service? I never thought I'd be someone who would want a cleaning person. I'll tell you what, these days it sounds like heaven! Ha. My friend's husband surprised her a few months back and had the cleaning lady his Mom uses come clean their house on a week where she was really busy. I thought that was so awesome. How cool would it be to just have work, laundry, cooking dinner to worry about and then know that the cleaning/dusting/vac etc. would be taken care of. That would have been awesome this week. Maybe then there would be time to get caught up on all the scrapping projects I wished I had time for, reading all the books in my to be read stack and getting something done on the remodeling of our house.

Did you watch DWTS? (Dancing w/the Stars) I LOVED Jennie Garth's dance! It was awesome. Cameron's was pretty cool too. I do wish that Edyta girl would find some clothes though. I wonder if they show her the costume and she has them like remove 1/2 of it? She was dancing with Cameron who was supposed to be Superman and she seriously looked like Princess Lea when Jabba the Hut had her.... Ha. Ha. Ha. Seriously.... (yes, that is my new favorite word today. I seriously don't know why.... Ha. Ha. Ha. )

Well it is 11:32 PM. I need to go make a grocery list and probably head to bed. I would love to sneak in an hour of work on my banner and blocks but then I won't want to get up. Thing is, being a night person, I could totally work for a couple hours right now.

I'm in the new Sbks Etc!

OK, I am sooooo excited. My card is in the new issue (Nov/Dec) of BHG Scrapbooks, Etc. Is just came today! I submitted it earlier this year. I had made this card after seeing their article about using your stamps for a paper pieced look. The club I was designing for at the time was having an online crop and I made this card and used the paper pieced thing as a challenge for the crop. It came out really cool, so I submitted it and told them I had made it as a result of their article. Not too long after that, I got a call from them. They left a message on my machine but my goofy machine cut it off before I got the call back number! I did not panic, I went on their website and found out who to e-mail for submission questions and told them about my call and asked who to contact. They got right back to me and it all worked out perfectly! Here is a better close up of the card.

It is seriously so cool to see your work in the magazine. Very fun. Now I am eagerly waiting for my card to come back and to see what goodies they send me.

For more fun mail today I got a package of rain dots from May at the Fiskateers website! They have an online crop coming up. If you pre-registered for the crop, you were registered for some pre-crop RAK's and my friend and I both got e-mails that we were getting some rain dots. Cool!

We got our outdoor fall decorations done today. I LOVE them! We got all the porch furniture cleaned off and then decorated. We tried to buy Mums and Pumpkins and stuff last night but the places we went were sold out! It's only October 13th for goodness sakes. So Darrel had to go to town to get stuff for his truck brakes and he came home with Mums, pumpkins, gourds, and the cutest little red Indian Corn. He said he saw it and thought I'd like it and think it was cute. He was right. He is so sweet.

Tomorrow is church and then we are heading to a town about an hour away for a revival. We are going to help sing on Worship Team so that should be fun! Might get to see some family along the way and will also go out for lunch so it should be a nice day!

Finally Fall

OK, so the trees aren't quite this gorgeous yet. The weather was so fall today it just really has me anticipating the amazing colors! Either Darrel or I took this photo 2-3 years ago at a local park. It gets so pretty there every year. Since I can't see the colors out my window just yet, I figured I'd substitute the picture and give you something pretty to look at too!

Did you hear Daisy D's is accepting applications for their 2008 Design Team? A friend forwarded the information to me today and I just applied. They are one of my favorite paper lines. It would be so awesome to be part of the team. I love how they are taking applications rather than turning it into a big contest. So much less stressful and simpler. Now to wait until December when they announce the team. I just happen to be working on my fall banner and blocks right now using the Daisy D's autumn papers from last year and I just recently placed a pre-order for the fall line for this year. Their papers are gorgeous! They have that aged/vintage/distressed kind of look that I like and some of them you'd swear they were fabric until you touch them. Great stuff! This layout I made just recently was with some favorite Daisy D paper.

Why is it life gets way overwhelming and hectic, then things slow down and you have a calmer week or two and then everything hits at once again? Couldn't we just like plan only 1 or 2 things per week please? No? OK, I guess I'll survive.... This week and about 1/2 of last week were calmer and less stressful. Now next week there are several things happening, plus needing time to get things done at home and do some extra cleaning because we have house guests coming. Somewhere in there I'd also like to get the porches cleaned up and decorated for the fall too! I was also thinking maybe I could cook ahead for company and bake a few things but not so sure that will be happening. Guess we will take it a day at a time and see how much gets accomplished on my day at home tomorrow. I'd also like to get my 2 fall projects done so I can display them and enjoy them before its time to put them away and get Christmas stuff out! Ha.

Thoughts for a Saturday

So look what was waiting for me when I got home yesterday? I got a PINK sizzix Big Kick! I didn't think I'd be able to get one because from what I understand they are only offering them at AC Moore stores and we don't have those where we live. I found this one on Ebay and got a great deal! I was a little stressed about it because it appeared to be from a first time seller, so no feedback or reputation to go off of. They also did not offer insurance... another thing to make me nervous. But, I figured I was protected with paypal and some prayer so it all worked out well. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it looks very cool. I like that you are supposed to be able to use other manufacturer dies in it and I like the texturing and embossing things it does. I also love that when I use my sizzlits alphabets I can cut out many of them at once. That will be way less tedious than one at a time. Of course I LOVE that its PINK! Very cool.

Yesterday I got to spend a shopping day with my Mom. We had a nice day out! I got to check out a LSS that I had seen before but had not been to. This town is about 2 hrs away from me and the few times I had been there the store was closed. It was a great store. Lots of cool stuff. I wish it were closer. They gave me a frequent shopper card though so now I have to go back right? Ha. Ha. Ha. They had the new fancy pants felt which looks very cool and fun and then a new pack of mini ghost shapes from Heidi Swapp in a variety pack. Can't wait to use them.

We also went to a Barnes and Noble. Mom picked up a few books. I have too many I have not read yet, so I got a CD. The new one by Casting Crowns called The Altar and The Door. I just love the East to West song on that CD and always like there music so I am sure the rest is fabulous. Their music always has such an amazing thought provoking message. Did you know they work in youth ministry? I think that is awesome. I was reading the liner notes and like every song tells you a reason it was written and has scripture references. You could just about have a devotional on the liner notes alone. I would highly recommend any of their music.

Have not gotten much accomplished today... feeling tired. I realized today that I have gone about a week without my thyroid meds.... well duh... think that might be the problem? It was purely accidental... just kept forgetting to get it filled and then kept forgetting to pick it up.

Sitting here watching the movie Shall We Dance on lifetime. Saw it several years ago at the theatre before Dancing With the Stars was a hit. Watching the movie now I am noticing how many of the DWTS dancers are in this movie. Did everyone but me know this? You have to watch closely but you will catch a glimpse of several of them like Karina Smirnoff for instance.

I will close with a scripture a friend from church E-mailed me yesterday as a devotional. It is really great and touched my heart. I've been feeling a bit "bent beneath my load" lately so these words were perfect. Hope you have a great weekend. Blessings.

Random Monday Thoughts

Have you heard about these limited edition raspberry M&Ms? I heard about them from a friend over on The Scrapping Spot message board so I had to go look them up on google. M&M's site has this cute commercial running. I have not seen them in the store and have not tried them. Sounds kind of weird to me. I guess they are milk chocolate and raspberry flavored. I don't even know if I've ever had that combination. Now chocoalate and strawberries.... YUM. My husband and I had this nice get away weekend at a fancy hotel back when we lived in IL and part of the weekend package was like champagne and chocolate strawberries when you checked in. Well we don't drink so we opted for diet coke (since they didnt have diet pepsi) and then strawberries.... oh. my. goodness. They were so yummy. It's not the kind of thing you have really often so its more of a special treat. So, maybe raspberry and chocolate is good? Anyone had these? Might give them a try. I am usually a plain chocolate kind of girl... unless of course you want to add like pecans and carmel....

Did you watch Dancing With The Stars? I mostly watched it. Was trying to catch up on message board stuff at the same time and wasn't paying attention so great. I got a kick out of Marie Osmond's dance. She was surprising. It was cute to see her brothers over there cheering her on. I also liked Helio again. I missed Sabrina and Jayne so I need to run TIVO back and check it out.

Tomorrow is Walmart grocery day.... here is hoping to getting in and out without becoming completely irritated.... you know how that can be right? From my former walmart ranting? Ha. Ha. Ha.

Wanted to scrap tonight and make this cool fall banner. Did not even get started. Hope I can at least start tomorrow. I really would like to get it done so I can enjoy it for Oct/Nov. before Christmas decorations.

Did you check out the cool new music player on my blog? I saw it on several other blogs and thought it was so cool to make your own playlist with favorite stuff. I didn't even get to check out 1/2 of what they had available. Why is it when you can look up music or something like that you can't think of like a single song or group you like in that particular moment? What is up with that?

OK who has a jump drive? Are they not amazing things? I recently upgraded from a 256K to a 2 GB jump and wow - LOVE it. No more figuring out what to delete to fit something else on there. They are so so handy at work. I had to load photos from one computer to another today and it makes stuff like that so simple rather than having to take the time to burn a disc.

So who has an Ipod? I keep wondering if I would like or use one. Did you know they come in PINK? What is not good about that? Wondering if it would be a good addition to the Christmas list... I also need a watch. Mine is pretty old and the finish is really beginning to wear off. I hate that though because I love the one I have and its comfortable. What are the odds of finding the same thing?

I should be finishing up a BIG project at work tomorrow and I am so glad. This is one of those things that has been hanging over my head for several months. It drives me CRAZY that its not done yet. I know people are waiting on me but I have honestly done the best I can. There is just never enough time to do eveyrthing. I would have had to put in like all extra hours to do this quicker and I just haven't had the time with things needing done at home too. I think some think I have taken a long time because I am obsessing over perfection, which granted, would be like me... but that has not been the case. So again. So, so happy to be nearing completion.

Supposed to sing again in about 2 weeks. Have started thinking about what to sing. Need to pray about it... I am wondering about the Casting Crowns East to West song because I like it SO MUCH and it speaks to me so much.... Need to make up my mind so I can get some music.

Darrel's parents are coming to visit in about 2 weeks also. We need to get the spare room and bath spruced up and ready for them. They like to come in the fall to see the colors. It gets so pretty here. I am glad they get to come because we don't get to see them as much as we'd like.

Well I am off to make a grocery list. Hope to have something fun and scrappy to post sometime soon.....
