Thankful Thursday

Here she is... the Homecoming Queen.  Well OK.....not exactly.. but to me she is Queen! ha!  At the High School my niece attends, it is Homecoming Week and yesterday there was a parade thru our tiny little town.  Lauryn and her friend are the candidates for the Sophomore class for "Maid of Honor,"  that is if I am understanding my niece correctly.  She told me she'd love to be maid but that it was a honor just being nominated.  Is she not the cutest?   We will go to Homecoming tomorrow night at the school to find out the results!  Can't wait.  I need one of those camera's with like 100X zoom.... Thankfully I have a husband who doesn't mind running around positioning himself where he needs to, to get the perfect shot!  It should be a fun beginning to date night I am thinking and these photos will be my first opportunity to do a Homecoming scrapbook page!  Fun right? 

Today has been an adventure because I am still struggling with no stove and now this week the water heater has been a complete pain in the rear... Darrel thought he had it fixed last night, but then today it did the same stinkin thing!  The hot water dwindles and dwindles and then you have to go to the basement and hit the reset button on the top element and then wait like a half hour until you have hot water again.  Not my idea of fun.  He says now the thermostat or the bottom element, or lime in the tank may be the problem so guess what Saturday's project is..... We have just a few tiny little things to finish in the bathroom and with all these other home issues getting in line in front of that we may never get done! 

As for the stove... the new one is ordered.  It will be a Kenmore, stainless, convection oven, 5 burner, gas stove with a warming drawer.  Sears has been very decent with us and we got an additional 25% off of the sale price so it's like 45% off the original price and they waived the delivery fee and will take away the old one when they deliver the new one.  The new one should be here by Fri. 10-7.  Let's hope they get it here early!  We could have picked it up in store, but both stores near us only had the one on the showroom floor.  We weren't comfy with that since it could have scratches, etc. and you almost never end up with all the books and parts you should have when an item has been sitting out for awhile.  Now.. two problems.  We took out the gas line when we converted to electric 10 years ago so Darrel has to re-install a gas line.  And on the current one, I have all these pans stored in the bottom drawer that will now be a warming drawer.  Where will I put all that stuff? 

Better head to bed... but first... my thankful list for the week!

Ten On Tuesday

1) So what do we think?  Here they are... the new glasses.  Bifocal lines and all.  Me?  I think I like them.  Still trying to get used to where they need to sit on my nose and where and how I need to look and/or tilt my head to be seeing thru the correct part at the correct time.  It is actually already much better than I thought and I can actually see across the room thru the top part without much blurriness.  This is a big improvement over just the reading glasses I had before.  They do have some sparkle on the temple and are open at the front sides of the lens which I like.  I'll have to take a better picture of just the glasses to show you next time! 

2) Is it winter yet?  Cause um today I wore Danskos...and socks.... and my toes about froze half the day.  I mean I haven't worn socks (other than for my walking workouts) since early spring.  So you'd think in September with socks and shoes... I'd be good right?  Well not so much. I was ready to plug in my space heater!  I guess fall is officially here! 

3) Can you still call it "date night" if you go alone?  Well after an experiment to see if you could or not... I must conclude you cannot.  Date night alone um stinks.  See this past Friday my sweet husband went to a Men's Retreat for church.  He was gone overnight Friday.  If you recall I was gone the previous Friday to the scrapbook retreat.  2 weeks in a row... not date night... NOT happy about that.   In the future we need to get a meeting with Pastor Mark and the Doodlebug and see if they can't plan their outings on the same week cause after all... its all about keeping us happy right?  Ha!!! Kidding. 

4) So what did I do for alone night?  I took myself to the big city for dinner and shopping solo!  We will get to that in a minute... What did I do to end the evening?  I decided to check out Orange Leaf Self Serve Frozen Yogurt.  Look how yummy it was!  Have you heard of these places?  You go in and they have like 16 different frozen yogurts to choose from. You grab a cup, you fill it up with the yogurts of your liking, add your toppings (things like cookies, candy, fruit, cereal!!! like fruity pebbles!, nuts, etc.) add hot fudge or whipped cream if you want it, weigh it, pay for it.. enjoy.  The only thing my patience challenged self did not enjoy was the fact that the place was packed and after I had my cup full of frozen yogurt, it took too long to get to the register and the whole time I was stessing my yogurt was gonna melt!  Do not want a cup full of runny frozen yogurt... ewwww... And no, you can't eat while you wait cause you have to weigh your purchase before they give you a spoon!  Definitely need to go back here with my husband. 

5) I went to a restaurant for dinner, alone.  I went to the yogurt place alone.  I almost chickened out both times.  Are you surprised?  Can I confide in you?  We are friends right?  Well see since I was a kid/teen I've had this phobia about having to enter a room or group alone.  Even if I am with someone, I do NOT like to enter first.  It makes me very self conscious because I have endured a lifetime of someone pointing, staring, even laughing while looking at me and pointing and talking loudly... about my weight, or how ugly or funny looking they think I am.  It makes me want to crawl under a rock or just clean disappear.  So to this day it is still especially hard for me to enter a room full of teenagers because my teens was some of the worse time for those kind of things happening.  So even as an adult, I see a room full, a restaurant full of kids and I do not want to go in there. (plus... don't get me wrong, there has been plenty of adults who pointed, stared and said very mean things to me as an adult...)  I can't seem to remember I am a grown 45 year old woman who does not have to take it anymore!  I really wanted to go here Friday night.  They were open after the mall closed and apparently some kind of high school game had ended recently.  The place was packed with high school kids.  I almost turned around and got back in my car.  Almost.  I said Deanna!  You are an adult.  You have worked hard to be a new Deanna that is learning to be happy with herself and love herself and you can go in there!  You can do it... and yep!  I pep talked myself right in the door and had a very nice treat all by my lonesome and I didn't notice one person trying to be mean to me.....

6) I also visited Hobby Lobby, Michaels and the mall!  Very fun... See I am all in a scrapbook mood after the retreat and I had 2 40% off coupons in my hot little hand and was certain I needed some new punches or something!  Well at M's I got a new Martha double edge punch that makes like a vine strip.  I got a Tim Holtz Kraft resist pad, and thickers and letter stickers were 50% off so I grabbed some of those!  Including one pack that was pink zebra!  At Hobby Lobby I wanted more punches.. but sadly they were cleaned out.  I did get a new album and page refills, 50% off, more thickers on sale, a pack of copic journaling pens (40% off) and.... I think that was it.  It's all sitting in a pile on my credenza... because sadly I have yet to unpack!

7) At the mall I found 2 tops, a cool pair of flip flops on clearance and yes... underwear.  Can I talk about underwear on my blog?  It must be confession day because here is another one for you.  I bought underwear.. *gasp* NOT at walmart in the 5 pairs in a pack for the bargain price of what like $9 or something like that?  I bought the pretty stuff... where you pick out one pair at a time... this was a new experience for me and I am now a total underwear shopping convert.  How come it took me 45 years to figure out underwear is much more fun when it does not come in the walmart fruit of the loom bargain pack.... bwa ha ha ha ha.... So I'm a little slow.... They also had bras 1/2 price and 2 pink ones in my size... well they were just sitting there waiting for me. 

8) So Sunday.. we went to La Carreta for lunch.  Of course!  I had missed a week with the retreat!  (if you'll recall the previous Sunday I was in Jasper at the Amish restaurant ready to deck the waitress....) It smelled SO good when we walked in the door.  After we were at our table for a few minutes the manager walks up and hands Darrel a bag and says this is for you.  He says they are celebrating their 3 year anniversary and wanted to thank us for our business.  They gave us 2 sun visors.  Nice ones.  We were so surprised.  I just love that place!  They didn't appear to be giving them out to everyone so we weren't sure what was up with that?  I did hear that my friend Lori was given a t-shirt and visor.  I was thinking several other church people are regulars too so I was wondering if they gave out other stuff too!  I love that they know us there.  I love that they call my husband Mr. Darrel.  I love that they know we want 2 diets, cheese sauce and jalapenos.  I love that the workers there are so kind and friendly.  Favorite all time restaurant EVER... but of course... you already knew that didn't you....

9) The stove saga... we have a diagnosis... and the stove.. she is dead.  She can be revived for the low, low price of $360 some dollars.  We are thinking this is not the best plan since a new one can be purchased from $600 and some dollars on up.  It's a 10 year old stove and they tell us the control board or circuit board or some such thing like that needs replacing.  The repairman also confirmed that this was a SERIOUS malfunction and had we not been home to catch it, it could have easily caused a fire.. nice.  So now we are in negotiations with Sears.  They have offered us 20% additional off the 30% off sale price on a stainless gas range.  We've done some shopping and that seems to be about the best deal we can get.  As long as they don't try to tack freight/shipping on there...we should be in business, IF we can stop playing phone tag with the girl.  Getting very tired of this game and its no fun being without your stove/oven for going on 2 weeks now.  Hoping we have a functioning range by the end of the weekend. 

10) What are we doing this week for date night? Well we are going to homecoming of course.  Does this mean we can pretend we are still in high school?  :)   Our niece Lauryn is in the homecoming court I think its called... if memory serves... and she asked us to come see her!  I guess she will find out Friday if she was elected "maid of honor."  She said that would be cool but it was a honor just to be nominated.  Grin!!  I told her she should be queen.  She said well you had to be a Senior for that.  I told her she was good enough and beautiful enough to be queen now!  I meant it too.  She is an awesome girl inside and out and I am excited to see her crowned maid or court person or whatever... And yes... there will definitely be pictures!

Thankful Thursday

I missed a whole week of walking.  How did that happen?  Not happy with myself about that one.  BUT I did go today.  That does make me happy.  I know the danger every time I get too far away from my working out and weight loss journey.  The danger is I'll get away from it all together and quit.  That didn't happen.  I feel like Satan tried to throw up some road blocks today to stop me again... but he did not succeed.  I went.  It felt good!  The sun, the fresh air, and the stress relief I get from walking.....all very good things.  Very good things.  It made me realize that if I had gone sooner this week, it most likely would have helped my crabby bad attitude mood.  I need to remember that.  Been doing a lot of thinking about the weight loss and the working out and the whole plateau thing I seem to be stuck on like FOREVER... and I realized I might be stuck.  I might be limping along.  I might not be doing as good a job as I was... but you know what?  I haven't quit.  I'm still in this and I plan to stay in it.  Thinking I might start blogging more about it.  Maybe have a regular day for updates.  It will help me get back to the accountability thing, help me keep my focus and hopefully help me succeed in this battle I'm in with weight and food. 

Part of the blessing of my walk today?  The campground is all decorated for fall and Halloween.  Very pretty and I love the fall decorations.  Plus... as you can see... the trees are beginning to change!  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the trees changing.  Then a good friend just happened to be at the campground having lunch with other friends and I got to see her and get a hug and some much needed encouragement.  I mean don't you just love good friends that treat you with love and respect and when they convey to you with their words and actions that they just really think you are special and something great?  I often don't think I am something great so that kind of love and encouragement is so special.  After I left her I walked farther than I intended because I felt all pumped up.  Then on the road, 2 of the Prides Creek workers stopped me and made a joke that they thought I only walked when it was 150 degrees outside! ha!  I told them I try to go year round.  :)  They said I was doing great and were very kind and encouraging and got me all pumped up again.  2nd time in a week that God has put people in my path that told me just what I was needing to hear, just when I needed to hear it.  He is so good to me. 

Since the crop I have still been in such a creating mood.  Sadly.. I've had no time to even unpack let alone create.  Should I ever manage to unpack I'll have to show you the goodies we received, including this cute little treat tube we made.  I also have some other crop pics... like of the Scrap Fairy... that visited us several times.  I have spent a little time on the Authentique Blog and checking out some of the work of their design team and their blogs.  Authentique was a crop sponsor and the yellow layout I posted was from a class with their paper line.  Been enjoying Jill Cornell's blog.  Apparently she works with Noel Mignon too which we all know I also love... According to Jill, chevron stripes are the next big scrapping thing.  Now how cute is that border on her layout... I am going to have to be trying that.  She also had another layout that used mini eyelets on the pennants on a banner to thread the bakers twine thru.  Will also be trying that!  I have an actual list of things I want to try just from looking at her blog! ha!   Also found Amy Parker's blog and have been enjoying her layouts and style.  I like the sewing she does!  Want to try some of her ideas as well.  There is one layout with a very cool patchwork heart.  Check it out.  (you'll have to scroll a bit) 

Apparently I am not the only slacker.  I asked on Facebook today if all the other retreat girls were unpacked and so far... no one is.  A few hadn't unloaded from their car yet.  Ha!  Which the car is probably where mine would be if Darrel hadn't carried most of it in.  HA! I am thinking of hitting the big city soon and if I do, I need a few more border punches after trying out a few cool ones that Lisa has.... so see I need to unpack so I can buy a border punch so I can come home and use the border punch with the unpacked stuff.  Makes total sense to me.

Ten On Tuesday

1) OK... so where were we?  Layouts....Weekend Retreat... fun fun fun cropping time!  right?  I thought so.  So during this fabulous Friday night, all day (and practically all night) Saturday and 1/2 day on Sunday I managed to accomplish 4 layouts.  I looked back at the last few retreat weekends and it would appear that I always complete 4.  Yes... some girls did 20+.  This is not me.  This will never be me.  I am slow and have embraced that fact and have moved on.  So yes, I am quite happy with my 4 layouts completed.  It's 4 more than I had done before I left right?

2) Here was layout #1.  I had the idea for this and the supplies for this since Vacation.  Never got further than that so for the crop I packed up all my little supplies and determined to work on this one first.  These past several years I have gotten in the habit of doing a layout a year with a photo of me on my birthday. It's cool to look back over the years and see how you have changed and how the things you are liking have changed.  Most of the supplies from this one were from a kit from Freehand Scraps.  I saw it on Liz Kartchner's blog.  Loved how girly it was.  Had to have it!

3) Ok... speaking of Freehand scraps look how cute this little mini album kit is using those same papers... LOVE.  On the other hand... I have a cabinet full of cute little mini book kits that remain in the package so I am thinking... step away from the mini book kit...

4) Part of our fee for the crop included 2 classes.  One of them was for this page layout.  Well... sort of.  The basic design was by an Authentique design team member.  Sorry... but I tossed my instructions so I am not remembering her name to give her credit.  I liked the design, but I only followed along to a certain point, at which time I needed to depart from the instructions and add my layers and mixed up titles... to make it a little more my own.  I was pleased to find I had a picture with me that fit!  This one was from Resurrection Sunday this past April. 

5) The next layout completed was the one of my Grandma and I that I posted on Sunday.  I did that one for a challenge at The Scrapping Spot.  They do monthly challenges on the message board there and one of them this month was to do a layout about memories of your Grandma's house.  I loved the picture of Grandma holding me in her pink kitchen so I had to go with it!  Yes.. Grandma had a pink kitchen and a pink bathroom... so perhaps my pink obsession is wired into me and is hereditary.  Ya think?  I love inking and distressing and making papers look old and vintagey.  Is that a word?  At one point after crumpling, tearing and inking my paper... I was struggling to get it to once again lay down flat (which is nearly impossible.....)  It occurred to me that perhaps I should put it on the floor and run over it with my chair... I mean this would just add to the whole distressed feel don't you think? 

6) My last layout for the weekend was this one of my 2 favorite kittens.  Papers were from Pink Paislee Soiree.  I bought them in a kit with stamps and all from HSN.  Very fun.  I started out kind of following a sample layout in the kit, but ended up kind of going another way with this one too.  I also got out bunches of my washi tape and played with those... they are the strips you see on the top left and bottom right.  Love washi tape! 

7) Sunday Darrel picked me up at 1:00 when the crop was over.  I had gotten 3-4 hours of sleep the night before.  Likely closer to 3.  Got 4-5 hours the night before.  So lets just say I was feeling a little tired at this point.  We decide to stop for lunch on the way home because Darrel had been to church and hadn't eaten yet.  We go in to this Amish buffet which for some reason is open on Sunday.  This is not normal for an Amish buffet.  Anyway, we pay, the waitress girl comes to seat us, she looks at us/me and says "would a table be easier..."  This immediately TICKED ME OFF big time and we just about had ourselves a fight right there... I felt like she was implying I looked like I wouldn't fit comfortably in a booth.  Perhaps I needed a nap or a time out, perhaps it was old insecurities and demons making me feel this way... but in the moment... I was NOT happy and yes..I wanted to smack her.  I told her we wanted a booth.  I am wishing I had said easier in what sense or easier for whom and pinned her down about it....however even in my tried crabby mood.. I tried to be nice.  Tried.  Then when she gets us to a booth, she complains that they are all dirty because apparently it was too much trouble to do her job and clean one.... Which is exactly what we waited for her to do.  The food was nothing to get excited about.  It was OK.  I am thinking we will not be driving out of our way to go there again anytime soon. 

8) Monday was quite a train wreck of a day in just about every way.   Was tired and not feeling well.  Had an argument with my husband... which does not make me a happy girl.  I am sure the argument had nothing to do with me and my tired crabby state... That's what you were thinking too right?  I had a sore throat, headache.. nauseous.  Not sure if I have a touch of flu, allergies.. or just overtired.  I overslept.  I didn't get to fix my hair because of this and therefore was having a bad hair day therefore I feel completely ugly kind of day.... Totally messed up on my diet and my walking... more negativity going thru my head... Had further arguments with my husband when he got home and this was after an hours nap... At this point I was thinking Darrel will likely never be sending me to a retreat again if he has to put up with a tired crabby Deanna in the aftermath... Good thing he for some reason likes me enough to be understanding... forgiving... and even take care of me in my crabby state.  Rest assured today was a much better day and the Koontz's are no longer crabby with one another. 

9) During the train wreck day... I did manage to hit the eye DR's office in town to pick out new glasses.  I did not find a pair like the one's at the place that did not take my insurance, but I think I like these almost as well.  How come everyone else can find glasses with pretty sparkles on them..... but when I go to look... nothing.  I did manage to settle on a pair, all by myself, that have a pretty bronze frame, a nice lens shape and yes... a little bit of the appearance of a sparkle on the temples.  This prescription will be top 1/2 for computer, bottom 1/2 for reading.  Like a traditional bifocal.. but not.  This required the endless discussion about whether or not I wanted the line.. or did I want to pay $150 that my insurance would not cover for no line.  I was about to go with the no line when the DR decides that the frame I picked, did not have a big enough lens for no line.. this made the decision for me since there were no others that I liked... AND I did not want to pick out a pair that was going to have way bigger lenses.  Since they are just for reading/computer, I am thinking the line won't bother me all that much... lets hope...

10) OK.. don't throw things at me or anything... but it occurred to me today that there are just a smidgen over 60 days until it will be time to get out the pink Christmas Tree.... Can you believe it?  How is this possible... I mean wasn't I just sitting in a beach chair a few minutes ago?

I Won... I Won... I Won...

It's late... I'm sooooo tired... but it was an awesome weekend.  It ended on a very nice note when this page won the weekend page contest!  I was so surprised!  I never win but have decided its very fun!  Thought I would give you a peek at the weekend's accomplishments and tell you I will be back tomorrow and/or Tuesday with all the scoop!  For now... I need a weekend to recover from the weekend.  Tired.... stomach is not good.... a wee bit crabby... I had to put myself in time out after I almost totally went off on the waitress where we had lunch..... details to follow on that one.  Hope you had a great weekend too!  Blessings!

Thankful Thursday

Yes, I've been putting it off for days.  I put it off as long as possible today.  But I finally did it.  I. Am. Packed!  So happy about that.  However.. tune in next week for the whining about the unpacking.... If I had to pick one or the other though, I'd pick the unpacking.... Looks like I'm going away on a cruise for a month or something.  Nope.  Just 30 or so hours of cropping!  It took me about 2 hours to pack.  Now if I started stressing about how much I was taking, or you better limit it to one bag or some such nonsense for me anyway... well then it would probably take me days because I would have to like completely plan exactly which layouts I was doing and exactly what I want to put on them and well... my head just does not work that way.  It's like the dieting thing.  As soon as I restrict myself to you will only work on this, or you will only eat this.  Well then immediately that is THE LAST thing my brain wants.  That would not be a good way to start off a weekend where I'd like a little creativity to flow.  So... the alternative?  Haul 1/2 your scrap room to the crop with you.  Set it up like you are home. And have fun.  This is my plan.... lets hope it works.  I am hopeful because this year I am heading there with ideas already in my head for 6 or more layouts.  This is really good for me.  I also have at least 5 new things of different supplies I am dying to dig into... 2 are Noel Mignon kits.  2 are Heidi Swapp House of 3 kits from HSN and one is a box of Websters Pages goodies I bought online recently.  Let the cropping begin!

So since I will be at the retreat for date night... *gasp*... we had a little mini date night this evening.  Darrel brought us home some pizza for dinner and we watched some favorite shows together.  It was mostly good... except that during dinner I kept thinking I smelled our oven, like it was still on.  We had turned it on to warm up the pizza.  I asked Darrel twice if he had turned it off.  He had... we kept watching our shows.  Meanwhile.. still smelling the oven.  I guess he started to smell it too because he got up to check it and guess what he found?  The oven was turned off... but the heating element was bright red, hot and getting hotter and hotter.... Um the oven and stove was already turned off!  He couldn't get it to stop until he went and shut off the breaker!  He gave it time to cool down, turned the breaker back on.. it did the same thing.  So yes, at the moment the breaker is off and staying there..... Imagine if we hadn't noticed?  Imagine if it had happened at night?!  Are you thinking fire hazard?!!  Darrel did some checking online tonight looking for repair people, parts, etc. and discovered other people have reported the same thing happening. One said their oven got so hot things next to the oven melted!  Yikes!  Sears (since its a Kenmore) did not seem to have an answer for this.  Darrel is thinking it would have to be the control panel?  He emailed them to ask what they are recommending for this problem and we are waiting to hear.  The stove is 10 years old.  We bought it when we moved here.  Now we determine which is going to be cheaper?  Repair and repair guy... or are we looking at a new stove?  Most importantly though, very thankful God protected us and our home, yet again. God is good! 

Must head to bed since this weekend will hold little in the way of sleep.... But before I go... our thankful list for this week:

Ten On Tuesday

1) Can you name the restaurant?  Yes my friends it is that time of year again.  Endless Shrimp at Red Lobster!  Oh my goodness... so good.  We look forward to this every fall.  Sadly, for like the next 3 weeks, date night will have to be post-poned.  So.. this past Friday night, we were determined to get away and make it a good one!  We hit Red Lobster before the rush.  We had a great table.  Good waiter..... and lots of yummy shrimp.  The manager says the special goes either thru or until November... so I am thinking we will be back. 

2) After Red Lobster we made a quick stop at Barnes & Noble for some reading material for our wait time at the Drive In which was where we were headed next.  Darrel says I picked out a novel...not a magazine... when I handed him the latest issue of In Style.  Um.. I don't think I've ever had a magazine that requires a bookmark! ha!! 

3) Next stop....the Drive in!  This will be our final visit for this season.  They close Sept. 25th.  We were worried it would be crowded because it was a nice cool fall like night, and it was a brand new movie.  We need not have worried... we practically had the place to ourselves.  Loved that.  No one was smoking in my window!  We saw Contagion.  Good.. but a little scary when you start thinking of all the ways you can pick up germs and how easy it could be to get sick like the people in the movie.  Creeped me out a little.  I did like the movie though. 

4) So I think I have taken up running.  If you go "running" (if I can call it that....) on purpose, twice... does that make you a runner?  I love to walk.  Running?  I've never been in love with that.  I also can't really do it.  But.. I am remembering that when I started, I could barely manage to walk 1/4 mile. So maybe there is hope?  I just go and "run" or perhaps slow jog would be a better description for as long and far as I can (which isn't much) and then I walk until I can catch my breath and then start running again and repeat.....  I don't even think I've managed to run an 1/8 of a mile at this point.  I am intrigued by the idea though that it's possible.  I am intrigued by the idea that I am intrigued by the idea... Does that make any sense?  Ha!  It's just so different for me to even want to do this.  So for now... I am going with it.  My biggest goal at this point is to get to the point where I can run 1 mile.  That's not so much right?  It's hard for me to believe it's even possible... but I'm going to give it a shot!  

5) Today I had an eye Dr appt.  Since my cataract surgery a few years back, I have to go once a year for follow up.  The appointment went well except that I am 45 years old and I have the beginnings of a cataract in the left eye now.  At this point, not a problem.. but could be down the road.  Then there is the all important, so fun.. eye dilation.  Not a fan.  It takes very little drops for my pupils to become huge... and then it takes practically all day for it to go back to normal.  This makes it difficult to walk across the room let alone work or drive.  So today I had a chauffeur.  He was pretty cute and took good care of me.  I am betting you can guess who that was.  I'd let him take me anywhere.  Good thing he was driving because I was in need of 2 pairs of sunglasses just to tolearate the light, and it was well after he dropped me off at work before I could read my own wristwatch!  ha!  It makes for an interesting day and you keep people guessing when they walk by your office and you are sitting at your desk with sunglasses on.  Perhaps they wondered if I was napping or something....

6) They eye specialist now also has a spot in her office where you can get new glasses made.  She gave me a new prescription for "computer glasses" which are like a bifocal, except the top half is for the computer and the bottom half is for reading and detail work like scrapbooking or knitting,etc.  Love this idea.  We go to the eyeglass lady and spend 10 minutes or more looking at frames.  Find a perfect pair that I LOVE and then when we ask how much they are, then we discover she doesn't take our insurance.  We're like huh?  How can you not take our insurance when the DR takes our insurance?  Nope.. she only takes one kind of insurance.  One.  How is this possible?  Then she says but she will give us 20% off and maybe our insurance will reimburse us.  OK lets see... we pay for the glasses and you give us 20% off or we go somewhere in network and they pay the majority... gee really tough decision... Let me think about that for 2 seconds.  So now I have to wait to even order my glasses and I have this rational irrational fear that I won't be able to find any frames that I love as much as the pair I had in my hot little hands today.  They were pretty.... they had sparkles... and that was what I could see with dilated eyes!

7) 565.  That would be the number of photos I have submitted to Walgreens to be printed over the last 3 days.  Yes.... 565.  Since I haven't printed photos, other than a few random ones at home, since last September.. I am thinking 565 isn't so bad.  I seem to have this habit of not getting it done.  Then the Doodlebug Scrapbook Retreat sneaks up on me and I suddenly have to have all my pictures to take to the retreat and they must all be printed immediately.  Because of course I need 565 photos to keep me busy.  You know, me, the girl who did like um four layouts in 30+ hours at the last 2 retreats.  Yep.  Wouldn't want to run out of things to do. 

8) Speaking of the retreat...I bet if you were going to a 3 day retreat on Friday, you'd probably already be packed up all nice and neat.  Right?  Me?  Not so much.  I am hoping to convince myself to do it tomorrow night.  Thursday during the day at the latest.  I just do. not. like. the. dreaded. packing!  Is there some way that I am not aware of that one can just transport their entire scraproom without packing?  I mean wouldn't that just be the perfect solution? 

9) Did you know Vera Bradley winter patterns are about to be released?  How did this happen?  Weren't the fall patterns just released like 5 minutes ago?  I mean how did I get so behind?  I'm never going to be able to keep up with them if they don't slow down.  I mean did you see the new stuff there?  There is one with pink!  You know I am going to need to be seeing that one... I guess Christmas is coming soon right?  ;)

10) So Saturday I went walking and decided to head thru town.  I am about half way down main street and see this guy in a pick up truck driving with his seat belt closed in the door, hanging out on the ground and dragging.  I'm thinking gee... I don't know... do you think the police might notice you aren't wearing your seat belt if you are dragging it down the street like making sparks?  Well if that wasn't funny enough... the next thing is he is at a stop sign and suddenly decides.. hey, I think I'll put my seat belt on.  He is talking to someone riding with him and is reaching up to pull the belt across.  Guess what?  It didn't come. So then he is like yanking on it and you can see his face and imagine he is thinking... "what the heck is wrong with the stinking seat belt!"  Oh my goodness.. I wished I had a camera for funniest home videos or something.. He was quite entertaining. 

Well I better go rest up for the dreaded packing tomorrow..... Have to get it done soon so I can get rested up so I will have alllll kinds of scrapping energy for the weekend!  Blessings!

Thankful Thursday And The Case Of The Anemic Pumpkin

First Bath & Body Works makes me sad because they stop making my beloved pumpkin soap dispenser.  For some reason they think we all want that foam soap stuff they make and um I believe I've told you my feelings on that one.... But... this was all OK because I just happened to keep a little pumpkin guy under my sink... just in case I couldn't find one the following fall. 

So this year, as I did last year I trotted on down to BBW and bought my favorite sweet cinnamon pumpkin soap so I could fill up Mr Pumpkin.  Problem?  Well this year, the soap isn't nearly as orange as it has been in the past.  The result?  Mr pumpkin looks a little anemic.  Like perhaps he needs a little time in the sun.  Actually, in the photo here, he doesn't look as sad as he does in real life.  Here is how he looked last year.  So now I have a choice to make.  Do I accept him like he is?  Do I take him out in the sun and hope he gets a better glow?  I was thinking paint or food coloring would work but I am also thinking this would defeat the purpose of washing one's hands. Ha! I have even toyed with the idea of getting some of the plain orange antibacterial soap and mixing it together and seeing what results.... I can't give up My pumpkin all together because well then, it just won't be fall.... Perhaps I will just have to accept him as is...Maybe he will grow on me cause he is still sort of cute. 

It's been quite an interesting day.  Last night, for some unknown reason I could NOT get to sleep.  I slept a little from 4:30-5:30 AM.  Thank the Lord I didn't have to go to the office today because I finally slept from 7 AM on for several hours.  I was still completely tired and groggy and out of it for much of the day.  I do NOT function well on little or no sleep.  Here is proof for you... among the stupid things I did today was starting a load of wash only to return later to find I had left the lid open, and the pile of clothes that needed stain treated that I meant to add... well they were still sitting on the dryer. I have no clue why I walked away in mid stream.  Next I decide to go to the store for dinner ingredients.  Then I decide to check on the kittens first.  I leave my purse in the car.  After caring for the kittens... I have NO memory of where I left my purse.... Third... I go to the store in fuchsia crocs, navy yoga pants, a grey and black t-shirt, hair up, no makeup... and did not care.  Usually being soooo mismatched would totally make me nuts.  Today?  I was sad to discover that I fit right in at the grocery store.  Ha!!  Finally get home and start dinner.  I was making spaghetti sauce. After putting the sauce together I walked away while waiting for it to come to a boil before turning it down to simmer.. and practically caught dinner on fire!  It got to a boil alright.  You should have seen the smoke.  At this point Darrel came home to protect me from myself and I determined I should be kept away from all open flame, children.. and perhaps small animals.

Is it a really sad thing that I have spent several hours over the past two days organizing all of my Kindle books into collections?  No of course not because its totally just like me.  Right Lisa... I see you nodding your head right now... See when one has 399 books on their Kindle, and they don't have them organized into collections well then every time one goes to pick a new book... they have NO clue what they have or what they want to read.  I grab so many Kindle freebies by the time I am ready to read it, I can't remember was this Christian Fiction?  Biography?  Mystery?  I mean sometimes you are just in the mood for a certain story.  I also made a "read next" collection to solve the problem of never being able to remember which book it was I was anxious to read next.. It all makes complete sense to me and yes.. it makes me very happy.  I am sure some of you are thinking goodness.. if she spent hours doing that the last 2 days.. I would've thought that would've put her to sleep!  Bwa ha ha ha ha...

Well since part of this week was still vacation there are of course lots of fun things that I am thankful for such as:

• going to St Louis 
• getting to visit with our friend Katrina
• the zoo!  Loved the zoo. 
• 3 days of completely vegging out during the last part of vacation 
• cuddling.... enough sad.  We are big cuddlers.  I know you are shocked.

• Darrel noticing I had a flat tire before he left for work and then changing it for me

• ordering out for pizza at our favorite place 
• not having to work on a day when I got no sleep! 
• walking 
• pumpkin soap... even anemic pumpkin soap 
• planning outfits to wear with new shiny red shoes
• the Doodlebug Retreat coming up next weekend

So now we approach time to sleep.  You'd think since I totally skipped last night, tonight should work out better right?  Let's hope.  I am thinking we have some fun plans for date night so I'd like to be awake... Blessings!

Ten On Tuesday

1) So have you ever tried to take a picture of two squirming kittens?  Not an easy task.  Contrary to what it may look like, I was not choking the two of them.  Just holding them gently trying to get them to look at the camera at the same time.  Of course I should have known this was high expectations.  So.. here you have the best picture we could get of the two of them in one place at one time.  Are they not the cutest?  They have totally grown so much, yet they are still small.... and yes... I am totally in love with the two of them. 

2) So we all know I just got a new pair of fabulous Ugg boots.  Very good thing.  Since I am fast becoming a huge fan of all things Ugg... imagine how my attention was grabbed by this new style that I saw in an email today. Oh. My. Goodness.  I think if I could wear those my feet might never be cold again.  Love them.  Quite pricey though... should I ever be getting a pair, it would be after I've been saving my pennies for a good long time.  I wonder if winter will be long enough? 

3) Was browsing the Smash Stories Blog today because I gave a Smash Book to a friend recently and I wanted to show her some examples of what one might do with a Smash Book.  I hadn't visited their blog in awhile so I was surprised to see all the cool examples of what people have been doing with their book.  I totally need to quit talking about it and actually put my first one together!  I AM going to do one about the summer.  I am.  Promise.  You'll see....

4) Yes, today was the first day back to work after TWELVE days off.  12 days.  They were wonderful and despite the fact that I will appear greedy.. I want more.  Feel like we crammed lots into our 12 days... scrapbooking, read 3 books, Holiday World, Boating and Fishing on the lake, shopping in Louisville, St Louis zoo... and vegging out at home.  We covered it.  Back to reality now... but I totally did not want to head back to reality.  I am thinking its not all its cracked up to be.  However spending time with my husband 24/7 IS all its cracked up to be so therefore... I'd like some more of that please.

5) Have you heard of these little Instax cameras?  As I understand it, its sort of the nowadays version of a Poloroid One Step.  Remember those?  You know... point the camera at someone, press the button, out pops a picture?  I still have one somewhere.  Liz Kartchner has mentioned the instax on her blog fairly often and they sound like fun.  Then last night I discovered they come in um PINK.  So now I am wondering if this should be added to my Christmas list immediately.  That and of course the Ugg Boots... ha!

6) While browsing Pinterest during vacation time I found two more adorable crochet patterns I must try.  This very cute baby hat.  Yes, apparently I have quite a thing for baby hats lately.  And must try one of these very cute bags.... However it might be a good idea if I actually finish the scarf I am knitting or the baby bear hat I am making first... you think?

7) While we are on Pinterest... I also spotted these very cute pumpkins painted to look like candy corn.  How cute is that?  Looks like all you need is a properly shaped pumpkin and a little spray paint.  I totally need to try that!

8) Went walking today.  I missed a lot while on vacation. No, that was not a good decision.. but now I am getting back with it.  Of course today was totally hard... I didn't have a good place to clip my phone and it kept flopping around.  One earphone kept being a pain and falling out.  Earphone cords kept getting twisted and like trying to choke me.  Legs were tired.  Tried a new knee brace which worked at first, but then kept shifting, resulting in too much compression where I didn't need it which resulted in more pain.... Came home with a very sore knee... and am once again sitting with leg elevated and a heating pad.  GRRRR  It will be better tomorrow and no I am NOT giving up. 

9) The Doodlebug Scrapbook Retreat is in just a little over a week.  I cannot believe its that time already!  I am sooooo nowhere near ready.  I need to get pictures printed and then... there is the dreaded packing.  The good parts well out weigh the bad parts so I am happy about that!

10) Did it feel like fall where you live today?  Guess its time to get out the pumpkin soap!  It was totally fall like today with cooler temps and a breeze.  I am happy and sad.  I've gotten to where I enjoy the summer so much with beach days, suntans, summer shoes and pedi's that I am sad to give those things up!  Guess its a good trade off though for beautiful fall colors, fall temps, leaves, pumpkins, hot chocolate... decorating the porch.  All very good things. 

Hope your "short" week is good.  I am thinking by the time I actually figure out what day it is... well then the week will be over.  Today felt like a Monday... but at least it wasn't!  ha!  Blessings!

Meet Me In St Louis

Friday, Date Day/Night.  We wandered a little further away from home than usual... ya think?  We left the house bright and early... OK for us... and headed to St Louis so that we could spend the day at the St Louis Zoo.  We picked an awesome day to go to the zoo... it was only 102 degrees out.  Good planning right?   Oh well, we didn't let that deter us.  I've been walking in the heat all summer so I figured what's the difference.  Hopefully they'd have some air conditioned exhibits and shops and eating places right? 

The south entrance to the zoo is beautiful with plants and fountains and this beautiful waterfall.  You might notice a handsome guy there in the picture too.  I thought he was extra cute sitting next to all those pretty pink flowers.   

My husband then decided we needed a picture of both of us by the waterfall.  It only took um ten a few tries.  He can be quite tenacious when he wants to be.  I like the picture although all day I was annoyed with my hair.  When I twist it up at home.. love it.  Want to go out and be reasonably close to cute for the day and it totally would not cooperate.  I also had my outfit all planned and when I put my NEW shirt on I discover it has a giant hole in the seam... NOT happy about that and was beginning to hope it wasn't going to be "that kind of day" all the way around....

My husband's favorite part of the day without doubt was the shark and stingray tank.  You were able to reach in and touch/pet the stingray's and possibly a shark if the shark was interested in checking you out.  Yes... he even convinced me to pet a few.  It was very cool actually.  You were supposed to put your hand in the water, flat, palm down and then stroke the stingray in the middle of their back as they went by.  They were kind of silky and slimy all at the same time.  A few of them seemed to like being petted because you would actually notice them slow down and even circle back around to you. 

The coolest part was when you could feed them.  It was $1.00 for a cup of food which consisted of various shrimp, squid and fish parts.  Yes.  Ewwww... You held the shrimp between your fingers, palm up, and then put your hand under the water.  The stingray would come by and swim over your hand and take the food out  of your hand.  It felt very weird.  I did it once.  Darrel did it several times and at one point I thought I was going to ask him if he wanted me to come pick him up at the end of the day! ha!  He loves animals and always seems to have a connection with them.  It would not have surprised me in the least if he picked up a stingray to give it a hug!   

Darrel loves taking pictures at the zoo and he got a lot of fabulous shots... in this wife's opinion.  Well after we bought a new memory card he did.  See... his wife had used the camera for Faith In Action Sunday at church.  She had to make a Powerpoint of the pics for service and so she took the memory card to work with her.  No problem right?  Unless... she forgets to get the card back out of her purse to put back into the camera.  oops... It's funny that at one time we could go to the gift shop and buy rolls of film to pop into our camera and now.. you can go there to buy digi supplies, batteries and yes, thankfully memory cards.  See I had my trusty pink camera with me, but it has like a third of the zoom the little Nikon does.  So what do you think... does the bear look like he is enjoying the 102 degree temps?  At least he had a pretty pink ball to play with.  I don't think he cared or planned on moving at the moment though. 

Those are some of the better shots.  Do you see the baby monkey in this last shot?  He took umpteen pics to get that one.  Little guy was not into posing for a picture.  The sign on the window said he was just born in May of this year.  At one point up in this corner he was hitting two of the adult monkeys on the head! They seemed to take this in stride as normal behavior. 

At the end of the day, before heading for dinner, we stopped and saw a friend that had just been released from the hospital after two months.  She had a bilateral lung transplant.  She was and is doing awesome and it was so good to hug her again and sit and visit and hear about how this whole experience has been.  Her testimony is awesome and quite inspirational. 

Between the zoo and our friend's apartment... well a girl looks just a bit sweaty and wilted after walking around in the heat for hours.  So I decide while we are driving, I will freshen up and touch up my makeup.  I propped my little train case on my lap, pulled down the visor mirror and off we went.  Sounds like an easy enough idea right?  Wrong... Imagine if you will trying to put on your makeup and fix your hair in the middle of a roller coaster ride... I was lucky not to appear clown like by the time we arrived. 

We ended the day at Olive Garden where we enjoyed the Never Ending Pasta Bowl special.  That was quite good.  We were late for the dinner hour too so the restaurant was quieter and calmer and no wait for a table.  Liked that! 

We decided to make it a one day trip even though it was 3 hours one way.  It really was fine even though we got home a bit late.  It was no later than the time we've been staying up anyways while we've been off so who noticed the difference right? 

Since then we've been home and doing our best to be complete slugs... and milk out every last moment of vacation time that we can.  I spent way too much time on pinterest today... but found lots of cool ideas for crafts, crochet, cooking, and some ideas for our vow renewal next year.  I hope to share some of those things in posts later this week.  We hoped to hit the beach today and get our last beach day of the year in.  The weather however had other ideas.  I think tomorrow will be too cool so we may be all out of beach days for 2011.  I am sad about that, but will turn my focus to fall which as you know I love love love and adore.

Thankful Thursday

I have a question. Does Ugg make a bra? Cause I am thinkin' they should. We had a marathon shopping day yesterday and by the end, my ugg slippers on my feet felt soooooooooooo good.... I was really thinking some of my other parts could benefit from some ugg comfort. Bwa ha ha ha ha...















To start our day we headed to Louisville KY. First stop? The Summit, which is an outdoor shopping mall kind of place. We got there right around lunch time. We were hungry. I of course needed a bathroom and there was a 5 Guys Burgers and Fries place right in front of us so guess where we went? This was our first 5 guys experience. It was good. The fries reminded me of Penn Station. The burgers were good but um if you get the regular burger you need a big ol' wide mouth to get it all in at once! ha!














You definitely need to share your fries with a friend because they give you bunches. That pile next to the cup? That was extras in the bag! Not stingy with the fries for sure.














Next we started checking out the stores. This my friends was my first experience with DSW shoe store. Loved this place. Lots of pretty designer heels to try on for as far as the eye can see! ha!! I had a blast in here. I don't think I put my own shoes back on the whole time I was in there. Kept seeing something else to try! I might have left there with a pretty pair of red patent leather pumps.... I've always, always, always wanted a pair of those. I used to work with a friend in Illinois that had red patent pumps and a red dress she wore and I loved that. Of course... at the time, red was my favorite color. Maybe that had something to do with it? I looked for a pair for the longest time and now, yes... I have a pair of my very own. Darrel didn't leave empty handed either. He found a great pair of slippers which he has been enjoying today.














Here is my loot. :) There was a store at the summit that carried Vera. So yes... I came home with the purse I wanted. Isn't she pretty! I am assuming purses are a her... don't ya think? I also found a cute pair of pink reader glasses with little bling sparkles on the temples. I asked Darrel if I looked too much like Flo. ha! Remember Flo? Darrel said if you had to ask me who Flo was I should respond... Kiss My Grits...

Next we headed for the Oxmoor Center mall. Here... Darrel left me alone at Archivers. I was thinking this might not have been his wisest decision. Ha! I didn't do too much damage there. I did get some authentique stuff, a package of thickers, and a few more things for my smash book. We hit Von Maur which was where I found these fabulous Ugg boots. LOVE them. Can't wait to pair them with a skirt and tights!















We ended our day at Mall Street Matthews... I mean Mall St. Matthews. Ha!!! The GPS kept calling it Mall Street Matthews and cracking us up! Here they have the much anticipated Cheesecake Factory which is where we had our dinner. Mine here in front was Chicken Bellagio. Darrel's was Tomato Basil Pasta. Both were quite good. And yes.. of course we had dessert and of course mine was Chocolate Tower Truffle Cake. I could take a pint of that Truffle Creme stuff they put on top to go!

We made a quick stop at Louisville Target just for batteries for my booklight... cause who could expect me to ride home for 2 hours without reading my Kindle? Um no one! Well instead of batteries I ended up buying a new book light that clips right to my Kindle. It is pictured here. It's the eBook Lite. Cool huh? My old booklight was for a traditional book and really, there was no place to clip it which was a challenge. This grips my Kindle very nicely. Only design flaw... it covers the on/off switch on the Kindle2 so I have to keep that in mind and remember to turn it on before clipping on my light. Not a biggie.

We had a perfect, fun memorable day. I'll think of it every time I put on my boots or use my purse... my head just works that way. Other things I've been thankful for this week have been:

• seeing Darrel catching his biggest fish ever
• a third day at Holiday World
