Let's Play!

So more cute kids huh? Love how sweet Lauryn and Cole are here on the tricycle. I also love the look on Lauryn's face while my Mom is tracing her with chalk. They were such fun kids then and still are. Good kids too! Finished up this layout last night using the Chatterbox Happy Day Kit from The Scrapping Spot. The colors on these papers are so fun and well um "happy!" Ha. Ha. If you haven't snagged yourself one yet be sure you do quick! Plus... make sure and stay tuned for the Sept. Kits. The Scrapping Spot Design Team Call

The Scrapping Spot is looking for creative, innovative and talkative scrappers to join our Design Team.

The Design Team term will run for six months: October 2008 – March 2009.

Design team members will receive:
-a free monthly TSS kit to create with
-a 25% discount in the online shop
-free shipping on orders that are shipped with the monthly kit.

Design Team members are responsible for:
Designing 4 layouts AND 1 card or altered project (if no card or altered item, then 1 additional layout is requested)
At least 2 finished projects by the 25th of the month, the rest by the 1st of the month

Layouts and other items should use at least 90% of the product in our kits.

1 blog post monthly Occasional challenges and crop challenges/participation.

Promote The Scrapping Spot around the internet (where allowed)

Contribute tips/articles once a month for The Scrapping Spot's monthly newsletter.

Design Team member layouts may be included in our online or newsletter classes.

Design Team members will receive credit for all of their designs.

If kit contents are used in a posted/published projects, The Scrapping Spot must be mentioned.

Reading Takes You To Magical Places...

How cute are these 2 girls? This is Lauryn reading to Lindsay long before Lauryn could actually read.... cute huh? I love reading. Love it, and the whole idea of reading in the photo got me going on making the whole layout kind of whimsical and storybook like. The big caterpillar on the left started out as a circle border and the next thing I knew I was wondering if I had any googly eyes.... as you can see I did! ha. This is another layout made using the August Chatterbox kit from The Scrapping Spot. See that butterfly? I made that! Jill and Cathy, the wonderful owners at The Spot asked me to make enough for them to put into their kits for August! Cool huh? It was fun making them and then when I got my kit in the mail it was soooooo cool seeing my butterfly in the kit packet. I even took a picture (of course). I'll have to post that when I'm not too lazy to go get it off the camera! Ha. I hand drew the cloud and tree and then did some pen and chalk work and stamping on them. Did a little other doodling too. Very fun. I wondered if I went over the top on the cuteness factor.... Lisa and I have been thinking "cute" is like the new in/trend kind of thing. Have you noticed? I especially thought so after being at CHA. Thought maybe you would like to see the other photo I had from the day I took the one on the layout............














If I did a layout with this one I think the title would need to be "Aunt Deanna the flash is too bright!" Ha. Ha. Ha. How funny is little Lindsay's face. On a related topic.... who can believe that the older girl (Lauryn) in the picture just turned 13.....I'm not getting old right?














Have you seen this? I saw it on Stacy Julian's blog last night. I need one of these now! I immediately went looking to see if I could buy one yet and how much they cost. So far I know that they aren't available until Aug. 11th. I haven't heard what the price is. I am sure it will be managable so I am already in line to get one! Ha. It is so stinkin hard to cut a long STRAIGHT scallop edge using the deco scissors. This will be soooo much easier. I have the fiskars threading water punch, but always thought it would be cool if you could do the edge without the eyelet hole so this will be perfect.

Went and had my walk today. I have a question. How hard is it to move over - on a country road mind you - and drive around a pedestrian?? Must be pretty stinkin hard because I swear people act like it just is a really big problem. I live in the country. There are no walking paths or trails or even sidewalks OK? The road is my only choice. I walk as close to the edge as I can. Generally when a car is coming it's the only car around, it's not like there is traffic for goodness sakes. Would you think people could just calmly and politely go around? Do pedestrians still have the right away or did they change that since I took driver's Ed 100 years ago? Is asking for like arm's length distance from the passing car too much to ask? I swear I could reach out and touch the car as it goes by if its not too busy knocking me over! Today, several times people drive right up to me and then act like "oh ok I guess I'll have to go around..." I want to yell "look people, it's here or walking in the weeds in the ditch or maybe I could head for the corn field if that would be better for you?!" OK, I feel better now.... unless you want to get me started on the people that not only don't bother moving over, but also have to stare..... GRRRR See, it's fun having a blog.. you can yell at the people who irritated you earlier in the day..... Kidding.

Happily Ever After

Made this layout today. This is the Chatterbox Get Happy kit for August at the Scrapping Spot. The cute couple in the photo is my brother Jason and his wife Stacy. Didn't she have a gorgeous dress? Love the train. I am particularly proud of the photograph too because my husband took it. He is excellent at photography. He has taught me a lot and my pictures are now better because of it. I guess when I saw the colors in this paper and the "happy" feel it made me think of their wedding because their colors were peach and green. Ok family who can believe this was 14 years ago? wow! Did you know that Drake's Farm isn't even there anymore?

Do you like the ric rac circle? That is a cool new stamp I got from Pink Persimmon. I love how it just works perfectly with the scallop circle punch. Great quality stamp too. I made the butterfly by cutting it out of patterned paper and then gluing it to some grungeboard. Then I covered it with Ranger Crackle accents. Made a very cool effect. I should have taken a close up photo for you. I'll try to do that for th next post. The transparency around the photo is a Prima clear paintable that I colored with Slick Writers and then cut up.

So yay it's about to be Friday. I am ready for the weekend. Seems like I've not caught up on rest or sleep since CHA still. Who knew how fabulous yet exhausting that would be? Hope you have a great weekend planned. I need to get lots of scrapping and crocheting done to meet some deadlines. Such punishment huh? Smile. Blessings.

Recovering From CHA....

Well we survied CHA and are home! Look what was waiting for me! My Mom and Dad sent me a Vera Bradley gift for my birthday! OK, remember my affection for cool detailed packaging? Look how this came. Love it! Really cool box, all wrapped in Vera paper and tissue with a nice card. Love it!! (um did I mention I love it? ) This is what I got.

























It's the cool keeper in the new Cafe Latte fabric. I used it like 5 minutes after I took it out of the box. The tag wasn't even off of it yet. Ha! I was heading walking and I took a cold bottle of water to leave in the car. It worked awesome! When I got back from walking, I had a nice cold water waiting for me rather than one that was baked in the car! Love that. I've taken it every day since. Thanks Mom & Dad.

Then today my friend Lisa had a birthday gift for me. I LOVE this Willow Tree figurine. It's called Happiness and below that it says "FREE to sing, laugh, dance...create! How perfect is that? I am putting it on my scrap table where I can see it often. It was cool because after I opened it I said to Lisa that I liked how her head was back and her arms out like "I'm free" and she then pointed out to me that was what the box said! I told her it reminded me of how I feel when I am walking lately. Free, victorious, happy... so a God thing for me. That is truly how I feel when I am out there and making progress and walking and feeling good. God is working on me and changing me and I am feeling victory and freedom where I have never felt it before and this little figure is just the perfect symbol and reminder of that. I love it so much. Thank you Lisa. You are a dear, dear friend and I love you so much!!!


















Still trying to unpack from the weekend. I have been so wiped out tired! All those hours of walking the show floor caught up with me I think. Anyway I thought I'd show you some of the goodies I came home with. All of these are things given to me by the generous mfg. at their booths. The 2 sticker sheets are from October Afternoon and were given to me because they spotted me wearing their button. Ranger gave us samples of their sepia, crackle and matte medium. Spellbinders gave the red t-shirts. The pen was from Scrapbooks Etc. Kokuyo gave us the fabulous tape runners. The tote bag was from Plano options storage. The glitter glue and glitter were from tulip and were from my Piggy Tales class.


















The pink thing is from Auto Ring and punches a hole and reinforces it all in one shot. This is so not me, but they asked me if I'd like a sample and handed me a neon green one..... I had noticed the pink ones and asked them if I would be too terrible if I asked for a pink one instead... Lisa was shocked I did that. I have never done that in my life. You must get brave in old age... ha. ha. ha. I figured what did it hurt to ask politely? I mean usually I am the one walking away thinking "I wish I would have....." and then fill in the blank. The stamps are from hero arts. The key chain thing is Maya Road. The apron is from Making Memories.


















This is all stuff from classes and Make and Takes. The Piggy Tales comapny had the green/white mini book we made in class and then gave us all their new paper lines plus some chipboard and stuff. Very Generous. In the Rusty Pickle class we made the red/white/blue mini book. AWESOME class. Lance was a great, great teacher and taught us how to be a good teacher. I even took notes! In addition he gave us a complete mini book kit with the new Candyland paper line. My other class was Daisy D's. Not so good. I am sad to say I was disappointed especially because they are one of my favorite companies. The instructions were hard to follow and many people were frustrated. I didn't complete my project and probably won't. Lisa gave up too. Anyway though, the other stuff here is the awesome Pink Paislee make and take which I need to complete because there was so much awesome stuff and techniques to it. At the bottom are Make and Takes we did at Heidi Swapp and Tim Holtz booth. LOVED them. The HS one was a dangly hanging thing made with the clear extras and chandelier crystals. The Tim Holtz one was a necklace with his Ideaology stuff. Very cool.


















Here is a close up. OK, guess what though? On this one she handed me a bottom tag that said simplify. I liked the Artful one... so again, you guessed it, I asked if I could have the artful one. Lisa said she thought "oh my gosh, she's doing it again..." See... bold and brave in my old age. Very happy with my artful tag.

CHA was awesome. So so glad for the opportunity to attend. Thank you to my friend Lisa and the wonderful ladies at The Scrapbook Tree for letting me tag along. You guys are great!

OK who watches So You Think You Can Dance? Love that show! Did you see it tonight and the dance Twitch and Jamie did to Mercy by Duffy? Awesome!! Ok first, I had not heard that song... It is now playing on my ipod as I type. (it will be great to walk to!) Smile. Second what a cool routine and I am usually not a huge Mia fan. Who do you think will win? I like Courtney, Jamie and Twitch the best I think.... Not sure though because Chelsea and Will are pretty great too.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Ok, everyone should have this on their birthday... Oh. my. goodness.... SO GOOD. It is about 11:09 on my birthday and this piece of Chocolate Tower Truffle Cake is what I am enjoying while blogging.... .YUM. I had a great birthday! Still here at CHA but my husband had this gift for me today.


















The pink and brown journal was my birthday week gift. Then tonight after dinner he gave me the Vera Bradley wristlet and an itunes card! How sweet huh? I pretty much thought the CHA trip was my gift so this was a nice surprise. After all day on the show floor, we headed out to a birthday dinner at Stir Crazy. Have you been there? YUM. This was dinner.


















We had another good day seeing all the latest scrapping goodies. 2 of my absolute favs were Graphic 45 and Webester's Pages. The Graphic 45 booth was stunning. Wow. You just want to stand there and look at it. Loved it. Was just noticing too that they have some great tips and techniques on their blog here.

























Here is a look at the Webster's pages new paper lines. LOVE them too. I'd take 1 of each please!


















Saw tons and I do mean tons more but too late and too tired to post more. Heidi Swapp has some awesome new stuff. We did a great make and take at her booth. Also loved new Bazzill dotted swiss cardstock and tiny ball fringe trims. I did post some new photos at The Scrapping Spot again. You can find them on the message board.

Another nice birthday surprise today was being mentioned on the Saturday post from Scrap Scene! Thank you so much Scrap Scene! It was so cool to see my butterflies mentioned. The butterflies will be featured in one of the August Kits from The Scrapping Spot! Be sure to check them out!

One more day of the show tomorrow and we begin the trek home. It's been an awesome time. Before we left I was stressing a bit about all the places we needed to be at certain times and I sometimes get travel anxiety anyway. I prayed about it and asked some friends to pray about it and let me tell you, things could not have gone more smoothly. I feel like God went before us and paved the way for everything we've needed so thanking Him for answered prayers. Thank you friends for your prayers for us too. Please pray for our safe travel home tomorrow!

Birthday Week Day 7 & CHA

Here is today's gift. Isn't he sweet? This was waiting on the computer when I came back from CHA for lunch today.

We had an awesome day. We went to the first day of CHA and had a blast. We got to see Ali E. and Tim Holtz.




































We did an awesome Make and Take at Kaiser Scrapbooks and made this mini book.

We also got to do the Make and Take at Pink Paislee!! They were limited to 25 people and Lisa and I were one of the 1st 25 in line. We still have to finish that project. It is the awesome Halloween mini book posted on their blog. They gave tons of product in that kit. Their lines are great!

We had a class this afternoon with Lance from Rusty Pickle. He was a great teacher. We had a good time and made a great mini book there as well. We walked the show floor and saw just a tiny fraction of all there is to see. Back at it tomorrow with a class bright and early with Daisy D's! If I have time I'll post some favorite product pics tomorrow. We loved Rusty Pickle Christmas line. American crafts new thickers (especially the ones that look like epoxy), KI Memories Glittered Lace Cardstock and new Sheers! They are soooo cool! And the new Jenni Bowlin apothecary labels, mini bingo cards and crepe paper ribbon. Very cool !! Blessings!

Birthday Week Day 6 & CHA

So this is all a girl needs right? Her Vera Bradley back sack (which worked awesome by the way) her CHA badge (and thank you to whomever requested the pretty pink neck strap...did you know it was birthday week or something?) and her pink camera! I'm all set right? Especially when you add to that having your favorite husband and BFF Lisa with you. Smile. But, before I go on about CHA..... It is still birthday week and here was today's gift.

























Darrel gave this to me before we left this morning. How cute is that? Do you think birthday week continues even at CHA?


















Today is what they call "Education Day." I had 2 classes. The first one was with Melissa Frances. We got to use their new Christmas Line and a little kit to make a vintage Christmas house.


















They said since their thing is vintage/heritage/antique kind of look they thought it would be cool for Christmas to have reproductions (in chipboard) of vintage Christmas houses/villages. Cute huh? The inking was optional which I of course could not resist adding. Just seemed like you aren't finished covering chipboard if you haven't inked it.....

Next class was with Piggy Tales. We made one of their new Drawbridge Albums. Very cool book. It is called that because it has all different flaps that open different ways. We used their new Itsy Bitsy Spider Collection for the book.

For dinner there was a "Taste of Rosemont" with favorite stuff from a bunch of area restaurants like Gino's Pizza! Yum!! There were some awesome mini tacos, turkey breast and flat bread, Italian beef with hot peppers... YUM.

Well I am crashing in bed SOON. 4 AM was a heck of a long time ago. Lisa and I already agreed we are going to be wiped out by Sunday! Just the walk to the convention center and back is strenuous let alone walking around the center while you are there and making it back to your room! Ha.

Birthday Week Day 5

Pink Chipboard letters! Now how smart is my husband? He not only does birthday week, but he can actually pick out scrapbooking supplies all by himself and get good stuff I like! Impressive don't you think? He left these in my car this morning. I headed out to walk (again, in the morning.... twice in 1 week.... be VERY impressed.) and found them there waiting for me. He has made this week so incredibly fun! Love you so much honey. Thank you for being so good to me. You are awesome.

At work today Kay handed me this. It looks red in the picture, but the tissue paper is actually hot pink. So pretty! She actually took time to "scrapbook" my present and decorate it for me. Is that not the sweetest thing? This was the outside. She also decorated the inside.


















Isn't that great? I loved it. Made me smile! She gave me a beautiful bracelet. Here is a picture. She also wrote a wonderful note that meant so much to me. Here is the bracelet.


















Isn't that cool how it twists? I looked it up and its a "mobius strip" and is supposed to represent infinity I think. Love that.

My husband had a hair cut after work. We both go to the same lady. He said when he sat down she asked him what was new. He told her it was birthday week. I've joked with her before about it and last year I happened to have an appointment that week and she handed me a pink hair clip! Ha. Today she sent home this bottle of pink nail polish for me. How fun is that?

It has been such a fun week. So cool how something we used to just joke about and not take seriously has become such a really fun and special week. Did I say it was fun? I think I might have mentioned it was fun.... Smile.

I have got to get off here now and finish packing. Need to hit the bed EARLY tonight. We have to leave EARLY.... I so do not function at early hours.... say a prayer for me. I'll do my best to keep in touch here from CHA! Blessings!

Birthday Week Day 4

Look at this pretty little dish! It was waiting for me when I got up this morning. I love the shape and the pink inside. Check out the outside.


















It has polka dots! How cute is that. I took it straight to my scrap table. I am sure I can find something to use it for there plus then I will get to see it all the time. It makes me smile. My husband amazes me that he took time to find so many pink things. I wouldn't think that could be quick or easy. I am very impressed.

Had my walk after work today. Oh my goodness it was HOT outside. Barely a breeze too. I think I almost got over heated. I still managed to make my route in 29 minutes. Pretty good huh? My ipod was skipping again though. I did a reset the other day when it was doing it and it seemed to fix it but now it has started again. We will see if that works again. Still bugs me though. Wouldn't seem like I should have to keep doing that right? Anyone else have an ipod 3rd gen, 8G and have this problem?

I need to keep this short tonight. Need to go start packing for CHA!! Can you believe it? We will be there the day after tomorrow! Wow!

Birthday Week Day 3

OK - I've tried this about 9 times and blogger is not cooperating with photos today. GRRRR So, one more time...........

Yes, he did it again.... Look what was waiting for me in my car this morning when I went out to head to the lake for a walk...(yes I did say this morning. I walked in the morning. Non morning person, allergic to morning me! yay me!)

A soft little pink bear! Isn't he cute? Of course this made me have the hugest smile on my face. My husband is the best. You know what else he did? He made me my favorite birthday cake. Since we will be at CHA on my birthday we are having it this week before we leave. Plus, we still haven't managed to purchase birthday candles so look what he did....


















Eclair cake with tea light candles! Ha. I went to blow them out... all 2 candles and only got one. Then I started laughing and that made the other one go out. Ha! Too funny. Have you ever had Eclair cake? Oh my goodness yum...... If you cut it into 12 pieces...it's 9 points for all you ww fans... Grin.

So check this out. I made these cards on Moo Cards. (which I heard about quite a while back on Ali E' blog). I had read on the message boards on Two Peas, etc. that it is a good idea to have a business card or card to hand out at CHA to vendors, for drawings etc. I had no idea though what to put on the front of the card (or is it the back?) So I got the idea to make a collage of some of my layouts in photoshop and use that image for the back. Cool huh? I like how it came out. The other side has my name and contact info. and also the Shabby Pink Designs Logo since I am beginning to help my BFF Lisa with designing page layout and mini book kits. So excited about that. Really happy with the service at Moo. Nice quality cards, good colors, they came in a nice box and they came quickly and on time. Here is a peek of the back.

Well I have millions of things to do before Thus 5 AM so I better get to it. Just because I think its pretty I will close with this photo of a flower I took at work the other day. Isn't it gorgeous? Love the color! Blessings!

Birthday Week Day 2

Well he did it again.... Look what was waiting in the car for me this morning as we headed off to church!
























He said he didn't know if I'd wear it, but he thought I might like to hang it in the car or in my office or something. I like it and have been wearing it for a bracelet today. Very cute! Isn't he the sweetest ever? How many men would go out shopping looking for little cute pink things to make their wife smile?

Had a good walk today. I am amazed at how much better I feel after walking. I was on serious overload earlier and stressing and just felt like I need to get out for my walk and clear my head. It really does clear my head too. I am so surprised by that. I never knew walking had those kinds of benefits. Who knew? Like everyone but me right? I made it on my route that is further in about 2 min. less than the previous time. yay!!

So why was I stressing? Oh lets see.... I was stressing about a mini book I am working on for Shabby Pink Designs and the Scrapbook Tree. I am behind and was worrying about deadlines. Then CHA is upon us and there is so much to do this week to be ready to go about 5 AM on Thursday. Then there is work. I have 3 days this week to get 4 days of work done. Then there was looking at bills and finances for the trip this week. Then there was the 15 other things on my to do list to be done before thursday. Plus I want to make sure and fit in my walking before we go since I don't know if there will be time while we are gone. Not to mention housework and laundry needing done. Enough reasons to stress? It will work out OK. I already got some help on the first thing with a new deadline. yay. Thank you ladies. I won't let you down I promise. I would love to sneak in a manicure before we go too, but not sure there will be time for that. Um doesn't sound like it does it. Hey it's birthday week.... a girl can dream right? smile!

He just handed me this pink candle(with a big grin on his face I might add) and said "happy beginning of birthday week." How sweet is he? And how pretty is this? It's one of those Marjolene Bastin things. Love her nature artwork so this is so pretty! Big smile on my face now! Do you think he is doing what he did last year? I don't know and he sure won't tell me. Guess we will find out tomorrow.

Wanted to share this layout I finished up today. Loved getting to use some of the Pink Paislee Spring Fling. Finally. I've had it for months and hadn't sat down and made something with it. Had some fun with the floral vine in the corner. I took a piece of Making Memories Chelsea's Place flocked paper and cut out the red flowers/vine. Then I added some of the Cosmo Cricket Blackboard chipboard. The pearls are from Kaiser. Really like this photo of us so it was fun to scrap!

Guess I am walking indoors today. I was about to head out and checked the weather because we have scattered thunderstorms today. Found out we have a heat index of 100-105 so Darrel was thinking not to wise to go walk a mile and a half in that. I get sweaty and hot enough without the temp and humidity being so high. So I am heading to my borrowed treadmill. How awesome to have that option.

Birthday Week Approaches...

Ok, can you believe how little I have mentioned my birthday? If you know me at all you know that I love my birthday. I love birthdays in general. I think everyone should have a blast on their birthday. Do you remember birthday week last year? My sweet husband gave me a pink present every day for a week. How fun was that? Oh my goodness it was a blast!! They weren't big expensive gifts or anything just a little something pink everyday to make it fun! Little gifts like that totally speak my language. Love that. I had people tuning into my blog everyday last year to see what the new thing was for that day. It was SO FUN. Thank you honey for always making my birthday (not to mention every other day) so special. In case you are wondering what the heck "birthday week" is, my friend Judy invented it. She had the idea that during the week your birthday is in, rather than just celebrate that one day, why not have an entire birthday week where you do fun things and celebrate. Cool huh? Right up my alley that's for sure. If you have to get older, why not at least have fun right?

As I mentioned previously, this year on my birthday I will be at CHA!!!!! So stinking excited about that!!!! We get to go and attend classes on thursday 7-17 and then go to the show and have a few more classes 7-18-7-20. On thursday my classes will be with Melissa Frances and Piggy Tales! On Friday I have a class with Rusty Pickle and on Saturday Daisy D's. Daisy D's is one of my fav. companies. I was a finalist for their last DT search. Smile!! Didn't make it but it was still cool to get that far. Today however I realized that the Daisy D class is on my birthday and is at 7 AM.... a 7 AM class on my birthday?! I am not a morning person. What was I thinking? ha. ha. ha. Aren't you supposed to like sleep in and get roses and chocolate chip pancakes on your birthday? Bwa ha ha ha ha!!

Have you been keeping up with any of the cool sneak peeks for CHA? I saw this today from Pink Paislee. How cool are those pixee sticks? I am offically in love with all things Pink Paislee. Cannot wait to see their booth. Hope we (Lisa, Melanie, LaDonna and I) will get to do their make and takes!! What about the cool new stuff from Maya Road. Love these for the trinket blossoms line! Cool.

My walk was GREAT today. I've recently added a little bit more to my route and today I made the whole new longer route in 29 minutes(loving the ipod stopwatch feature!!) That is my best so far. Yay me! I've been walking 30 minutes and am trying to gradually work my way up to 2 miles in 30 min. I am currently right around 1.5 miles in that time. So as it gets easier to make the route in that time I keep adding a little more until I get up to that 2 mile point. Think I can do it?

Last year for birthday week I had my first pedicure from one of those nail places. I was thinking it would be cool to go get a manicure/pedicure for birthday week this year but can't decide if I want to use my spending money on that. I'd love to get it done before CHA but not even sure if I have the time to do that.

















Have you ever read a Charles Martin book? OH my Goodness he is one of my fav authors. I have read all his books and eagerly await the next one. Well guess what? Where The River Ends is out this coming Tuesday!! The moment I got the e-mail telling me about it I went and pre-ordered with Amazon. Hoping that will make it show up all the quicker. I highly recommend all of his books. Especially When Crickets Cry and The Dead Don't Dance. You will not be sorry.

Well at this point I am either heading to bed or starting a LO.... I am home tomorrow so the LO idea is sounding appealing. I still haven't gotten anywhere with the scrap tag LO I need to do for The Scrapping Spot or the mini book kit I am designing for Shabby Pink Designs and it will be for a class at The Scrapbook Tree. Need to get moving. Hmmmm maybe tomorrow and Saturday need to be dedicated scrapping days. Sounds like a good idea don't you think? Blessings!
